Week 5 Waiver Targets

Updated: Nov 4, 2020

Every week waivers shock you with a handful of guys you would have never thought to pick up before. Here are our favorites for this week!

Quarterbacks

Gardner Minshew: Minshew Gets the putrid Texans secondary this week and the Texans are coming in with an interim coach. They may be fired up after finally getting rid of Bill O'Brien, but this team is going to be all out of whack. Expect Minshew to be able to move the ball down the field with ease, especially with Chark back in the lineup. In games with Chark this season, Minshew has had at least 24 points in each game (6 point passing TD's). If you need a fill-in, feel confident starting Minshew.

Jared Goff: We expected Goff to FEAST against the awful Giants, yet we were all pretty disappointed. It looked like a major bust to start him until a late score where Kupp was able to rack up some yards after the catch to get into the endzone. However, expect the Rams offense to bounce back this week playing another bad secondary in the Washington Football Team. If you're looking for someone to stream, feel free to start him. Also, a great pickup to scoop if you have a QB with a bye coming up soon.

Other Players to Consider: Nick Foles is someone I like as a stash. He struggled mightily this past week, but that was expected against a stout Colts defense who is currently #1 in fantasy scoring. He's worth a stash as he's been fantasy relevant in the past. Another guy to keep an eye on is Jimmy Garoppolo. Mullens struggled against the Eagles and he should be back soon. A great bye week fill-in who just got the majority of his weapons healthy.

Running Backs

Josh Kelley: Kelley has found himself as the #1 RB on the Chargers with Ekeler expected to be out 4-6 weeks. He's owned in 70.2% of leagues, but if he's a free agent in your league, he is a MUST add.

Damien Harris: Harris showed some flashes in a game where he was activated only hours prior. 17 carries for 100 yards is impressive despite the easy matchup. You never know how the Patriots backfield will work, but as long as Cam has COVID, he may be their goal-line back and go-to guy.

Justin Jackson: With Ekeler out, Justin Jackson expects to get some work for sure. Kelley will most likely be the feature back, but Jackson has had some value in the past and has the trust of Anthony Lynn. Don't be shocked if he becomes the passing down back and ends up with a similar value to Kelley in a Herbert lead offense.

D'Ernest Johnson: When Chubb went down, he stepped right into that role. Kareem Hunt did come into the game with a groin issue so Johnson got a lot of garbage time work, but if he is the second back in this offense, he will definitely hold some value. Worth an add and could end up with 10-15 carries a game on what looks like a revived Browns offense this season.

Jamaal Williams: Became nearly a timeshare last season with Aaron Jones halfway through the season and LaFleur was a bit upset with how he was overusing Aaron Jones. He is on a bye this week so if you're adding him it's for stash purposes. However, if Davante Adams misses another game (doubtful), he will have some legit PPR value. If you own Aaron Jones he is a must-add, you don't want to miss out on him if Jones gets banged up.

Other Players to Consider: Chase Edmonds is currently the 37th ranked RB on the season.... Kenyan Drake is 36th. Edmonds has found the endzone twice and Kingsbury praised him before the season. For Drake owners, I hope this doesn't continue, but Edmonds has some standalone value and if Drake goes down he has RB2 value. Ke'Shawn Vaughn found the endzone this past week and maybe worth a look in deeper leagues with Shady expected to miss time. Dontrell Hilliard was also involved for the Browns once Chubb went down, not as effective as Johnson, but still could end up in the mix so he's worth a look.

Wide Receivers

Cole Beasley: He is someone who is never drafted because his name is so meh. However, his floor is so solid and with Josh Allen playing out of his mind, he's on the flex radar. He's averaging over 12 ppg and is currently a top 25 WR. Only being owned in 27% of leagues is a crime, he's currently ahead of guys like TY Hilton, AJ Green, DJ Moore, and even his teammate John Brown (he did get a bit banged up). Go pick him up if he's out there in your league.

Tim Patrick: Patrick exploded on Thursday Night football. Jeudy had one big play, but Patrick was the real star grabbing 6 catches for 113 yards and a TD. He had 14 points in week 3 also! Only owned in 1% of leagues, he's worth a flier, especially with Fant banged up as well and Drew Lock coming back in the next couple of weeks. Patrick is worth a look.

Tee Higgins: He has 22 targets in the past 3 weeks and has looked good each of the past 2 weeks. AJ Green looks like a shell of his former self and it seems Higgins is taking over his role in the offense. He may not be startable just yet unless you're desperate, but he's definitely worth an add.

Laviska Shenault Jr.: His roster percentage has slowly crept up towards 50%, but right now he's only owned in 35% of the league. If you started him in your flex the past 4 weeks, you wouldn't be ecstatic, but you wouldn't be upset either. He has 16 catches and 9 carries in a Jaguars offense that has put up some decent numbers. He's averaging 10.8 ppg on the season and could quickly become the second #2 in the Jaguars offense as we've seen Keelan Cole fade away before.

Other Players to Consider: Scotty Miller has been very productive aside from the second week when everyone hopped on his bandwagon. He is most definitely worth a roster spot if Chris Godwin or Mike Evans continue to miss time. Tre'Quan Smith holds value as long as Michael Thomas is out and his injury could leak into this week as well, high ankle sprains are no joke. Dameire Byrd has been pretty decent for the Patriots and if Cam is out they will definitely be throwing more, he's a viable add as a flier for another couple of weeks.

Tight Ends

Robert Tonyan: Tonyan has 5 TD's in 3 weeks and is catching passes from Aaron Rodgers on his revenge tour. He is most definitely making a name for himself and building good chemistry with Rodgers. With Lazard out for a while, if Adams does come back, Tonyan may continue to be the second option in this passing offense and a red zone threat. Even if you have a solid tight end, he's worth the pick-up.

Greg Olsen: Greg Olsen's career seems to still be hanging on with Russell Wilson at the helm. They have to throw a ton every week to offset their poor defense. Olsen has 13 targets in the past 2 weeks and looks to be another viable option on this offense. If he continues to be involved, he could be a low-end TE1 this season as Russell Wilson's MVP campaign rolls on.

Other Names to Consider: Drew Sample had 3 catches for 47 yards on 5 targets. The 2 targets he dropped? 2 endzone targets. Burrow likes to use the tight end as a safety valve and Sample is worth a pick up if you lost Fant, Cook, or your TE is on a bye this week. Jordan Akins has been consistent for Deshaun Watson, he does have a concussion, but Watson has been keeping him involved. If you're desperate at tight end, give Akins a look.
