Week 8 Waiver Targets

Updated: Nov 4, 2020

Every week waivers shock you with a handful of guys you would have never thought to pick up before. Here are our favorites for this week!

Quarterbacks

Carson Wentz: Carson Wentz the first couple weeks of the season looked like the ultimate bust. I was one who drafted him as my QB and felt weary myself. I dropped him after week 3 myself while looking at the daunting schedule ahead with SF, PIT, BAL etc. Wentz has proven me wrong and he currently sits at QB9 on the season in terms of fantasy points and has had back to back 30+ point performances. If he is on waivers in your league go get him.

Joe Burrow: Joe Burrow had struggled for a few weeks there. Playing the jaguars, the Bengals got a lead and went run heavy leaving Burrow with a lackluster game. Then back to back road trips to Baltimore and Indianapolis to play 2 very good defenses, Burrow was dropped in a number of leagues. Flash Forward to this past Sunday where he shredded the Browns defense for 3 passing TDs and a rushing TD. Burrow should be picked back up for sure and is a viable starter this week against a Titans team who is in the bottom half of the leagues against QBs.

Other Players to Consider: Teddy Bridgewater gets the Falcons again this week, don't overthink it. If you have Watson or Murray on a bye, pick Teddy up and plug him in. He's been solid and last time against the Falcons he had a solid performance. Tua Tagovailoa is an interesting stash. He has the skillset to be a good starting QB in the NFL and Fitzpatrick was putting up some decent numbers prior to being benched. Derek Carr has thrown at least 2 passing TDs in every game this season aside from Week 1. He's a viable option this week against a poor Browns defense.

Running Backs

Chase Edmonds: Don't overthink it. If this dude is still on waivers in your league, go get him. With Drake there he was a viable option and without him there he is a solid RB2 with RB1 upside. The pass catching ability plus now the added opportunity for carries. He is a must-add and must-start moving forward.

Carlos Hyde: They have been downplaying Chris Carson's foot sprain, but he will miss at least one week. Hyde is banged up himself, but is definitely worth a roster spot if you need a running back. A great bye week fill-in if he is still on waivers. If you own Chris Carson, Hyde should have been on your roster. If you're like me, I just dropped Hyde in a league where I have Carson thinking I had room to spare. Clearly I was mistaken. Pick up Hyde for sure, especially if you own Carson.

Jamycal Hasty: An interesting add with Jeff Wilson and Raheem Mostert on IR. Hasty has been in the mix while Mckinnon was pretty much benched this past week for unknown reasons. Whatever Niners RB is starting is valuable. Which could also be his teammate Tevin Coleman who could be back soon. Both are worth an add at the RB spot if you have room on your roster.

Zack Moss: Singletary has struggled to get much going the past 3 weeks and with a healthy Zack Moss looming, you have to wonder how long his leash is. Singletary had 8 carries for 29 yards. While Moss had 7 carries for 47 yards. If Singletary continues to struggle, Moss could be someone who benefits from this and has a late season splash.

Other Players to Consider: JK Dobbins may find himself with a bigger opportunity this week if Mark Ingram misses the game with this nagging ankle injury from week 7. Keep an eye on practice reports, but I still believe Dobbins has the most upside in this backfield. LaMical Perine has been mediocre at best for the Jets. However, he found the endzone this past week and looks like he may be their best RB moving forward. If you're DESPERATE, he's a low upside option. Malcolm Brown got some work this past week. It still looks like Henderson is getting more work, but Brown found the score and has been somewhat involved so another if you're desperate kinda guy.

Wide Receivers

Cole Beasley: Cole Beasley is on pace for over 1000 yards this season and 90 catches. He has not had less than 11 fantasy points in a game since week 2. At least 50 yards or a TD in all of those games. John Brown has been banged up and Diggs found himself banged up last week also. Beasley has become a reliable option for Allen and is a low upside high floor flex play moving forward. For some reason he is only owned in 55% of leagues. Go pick him up if he is out there.

Sterling Shepard: Sterling Shepard looked great for those of you who kept him on your bench waiting for him to return from IR. It looks like he plugged right back in to the offense. For those who dropped him, he is now on waivers so go back and pick him up. In matchups where slayton is covered by the #1 corner of teams, Shepard should be one of Jones' go to guys. He's worth a bench spot.

Corey Davis: Davis has missed a couple games due to injury/covid. However, in the 4 games on the field this season, he has at least 50 yards receiving or a TD in all of them. At least 11 fantasy points in every game, he is a decent flex option moving forward and is worth an add in this Titans offense that can really move the ball well.

Brandon Aiyuk: Deebo Samuel got hurt yet again with a hamstring injury that looks like it will sideline him for at least this week, but possibly more. If you;re looking for a high-risk high-reward flex option, here is your guy. Aiyuk has explosive speed and will play as the 49ers #1 WR while Deebo is out. Pick up Aiyuk if you have some big name WRs on byes this week or next such as Hopkins or Fuller.

Rashard Higgins: OBJ unfortunately went down for the season, but this gives room for Higgins to finally showcase the talent he has. He has shown flashes throughout the years of what he could do, but the past 2 seasons he has been overshadowed by Landry and OBJ. With OBJ out of the picture and Landry battling injuries all season, Higgins has a chance to be a pretty decent fantasy WR. He is worth an add to your bench.

Other Players to Consider: Emmanuel Sanders will return soon and he was putting up some good numbers on the Saints offense. He may be inconsistent, but still warrants a bench spot. Curtis Samuel showed what he can do as a running back and Rhule believes he will still be in the mix for carries even with CMC coming back. He is also a decent pass catcher so he's an interesting add to see if they continue to use him. Greg Ward Jr. had a pretty good game for the Eagles and now gets to go up against Dallas this week at home. He is a viable bye-weel fill-in. Randall Cobb has 10+ points in 5 of 7 games this season and has quietly been a solid flex. He's worth a bench spot also.

Tight Ends

Logan Thomas: The Logan Thomas people thought they were going to see early on has finally emerged with Kyle Allen at the helm. He is heading into a bye this week, but with touchdowns in back-to-back games he may be a solid option moving forward. Keep an eye on him and if you have room, throw him on your bench.

Richard Rodgers: With Goedert and Ertz out again this week, the Richard Rodgers show continues. Carson Wentz loves to use his TE no matter who it is. We have seen Trey Burton thrive in the past while Ertz has missed time, and Rodgers should be a viable option until one of them returns. He had 8 targets last week and will likely be busy again this week.

Trey Burton: Trey Burton has emerged as the Colts go-to TE over Mo Alie-Cox. Alie-Cox missed their last game and has a questionable designation heading into this week. Jack Doyle was somewhat involved in their last game with 3 targets and a score. However, Burton has had at least 5 targets in the 3 games he has played and had 21 fantasy points in week 6 before the bye. Burton is a viable option moving forward as long as he continues to get the most volume on the team among tight ends.

Other Names to Consider: Irv Smith Jr. had a bye last week, but quietly in weeks 5 and 6 he had 50+ yards in both games. Getting double-digit fantasy points in both as well. Irv may become the clear TE option as Rudolph continues to age and be used more in blocking situations. Gerald Everett found the endzone again this past week and if Higbee continues to miss time he may emerge as the go-to TE for Goff. David Njoku may be the #1 TE on the Browns as long as Hooper continues to miss time, but his teammate Harrison Bryant found the endzone twice this past week. Both are interesting adds as well.
