Every week waivers shock you with a handful of guys you would have never thought to pick up before. Here are our favorites for this week!
Quarterbacks
Ryan Fitzpatrick: Fitzmagic is back with 4 straight games of 20+ fantasy points (In 6 point passing TD leagues) and continues to be a viable option. This week he gets the New York Jets who just got toasted by Kyler Murray and Fitzpatrick should be a viable option. Worth a start this week for sure.
Justin Herbert: Justin Rainbow Sherbet has been INCREDIBLE, to say the least. He has 7 passing touchdowns over the past 2 weeks and continues to sling the rock deep down the field. Make sure to get him on waivers this week if he is still out there while he is on his bye. If you wait this week, next week he will be at the top of the waivers with Jacksonville as his matchup, so get him now.
Ryan Tannehill: Why is Ryan Tannehill not owned in 100% of leagues? I get the COVID thing held him out for a bit, but he is back and better than ever. He is only owned in 41% of leagues, but since he took over for the Titans 14 games ago, he has 31 passing TDs and continues to produce numbers. He is averaging 25.5 ppg this season and will continue to be a viable option. Pick him up and plug him in this week and in the future.
Other Players to Consider: Carson Wentz has been dropped in a number of leagues and has continued to produce. At least 21+ fantasy points in 3 straight games, despite tough matchups. Don't start him this week, but he gets the Giants twice and the cowboys twice upcoming, as well as the Seahawks and the Browns. Worth a stash for sure. Kirk Cousins gets the Falcons this week, so he should be a borderline top 10 option. Derek Carr is quietly QB8 on the season and putting up decent numbers, may be worth a stash in deeper leagues or if you lost Dak.
Running Backs
Alexander Mattison: Do I need to explain this one? This dude should have been owned in 100% of leagues already, so go pick him up and plug him in if he's out there. Even if it's just one game Cook misses, Mattison is a top-10 option this week and a must-start player.
Damien Harris: Not as attractive anymore with Cam Newton coming back from COVID, but still a viable option. He had a lot of hype during training camp and looked good in his first game back. He's worth a speculative add at the very least.
Justin Jackson: Outsnapped Josh Kelley 42-25 and outperformed in fantasy 14-3. It seems Jackson was the guy to own in this backfield so go pick him up despite the Bye week and start him in Week 7. He's a great pass catcher and he's pretty explosive.
Jamaal Williams: Should have picked him up last week, but if he's still lingering on waivers in your league, go get him. He was very involved before the Bye and Lafleur wants him to stay involved. Aaron Jones is the obvious workhorse, but Williams has some low-end flex appeal and is a decent bye week fill-in for those scouring waivers.
Other Players to Consider: Frank Gore somehow stays relevant with Le'Veon Bell being released. Very low upside bye week fill-in guy if you have Carson on a bye and you're in a pinch. J.D. McKissic has been a decent floor, low ceiling option. If you're looking to get between 6-12 points at your RB2 spot, he is your guy. Cordarrelle Patterson got some work with Tarik Cohen on IR. He's worth a look in deeper leagues and is flexible as a RB/WR option.
Wide Receivers
Chase Claypool: 4 Touchdowns???? Absolutely insane. Does it happen again ever? Most likely not. This was probably the best game Claypool will ever have in his life. However, he is obviously a must-add and a big boom or bust flex option moving forward. If he can begin to become a consistent option, you may have found a diamond in the rough. Similar to Martavis Bryant a few years ago on the Steelers.
Travis Fulgham: Fulgham would have easily been the top-option this week if it was not for Claypool's 4 touchdown performance. Fulgham caught the long pass in week 4 for a touchdown and got super involved this week for the Eagles. 10 catches for 152 yards and a TD is quite the impressive feat. He definitely has some value as a flex option, but beware Alshon and Djax should be back for the Eagles soon and Reagor a few weeks away. Fulgham could disappear quickly in terms of snaps.
Mecole Hardman: Mecole Hardman gets a boost with Sammy Watkins set to miss some time. May get some more snaps with him out and has big-play upside. He's worth an add as this Chiefs offense is the best in the league and any pass catcher for Mahomes has the chance of scoring a TD every single week.
Other Players to Consider: Demarcus Robinson may be worth a bench spot with Watkins out also. He has shown flashes in the past of success in this offense. Corey Davis was dropped in a number of leagues after being added to the COVID list. However, he had 3 games of double-digit PPR points and I don't think he is going to disappear. He is still worth a roster spot. Randall Cobb has 10+ points in 3 of 5 games this season and has been a decent option. He's worth a bench spot also.
Tight Ends
Austin Hooper: Hooper has finally woken up on this offense and led the team last week with 10 targets. Any tight end getting 10 targets in a game is at least worth a roster spot. He may not be consistent just yet, but he is becoming more involved in that offense.
Jordan Akins/Darren Fells: I prefer Jordan Akins if he is healthy, but if he misses another week Darren Fells is a viable option. Watson has been looking to his tight end a bit more frequently this season and in the red zone a bit also. Combined they have 3 touchdowns through 5 games, but Akins was getting decent volume before the concussion. The starting tight end is worth a bye week fill-in.
Other Names to Consider: Irv Smith Jr. had 4 catches for 64 yards on 5 targets last week. He may become a viable pass-catcher on the Vikings offense and is worth a look. Gerald Everett has been okay over the past 3 weeks for the Rams and may become the go-to tight end if Higbee continues to struggle to get involved.
